The new Family Law Act: Concluding remarks

The new Family Law Act is coming into force on March 18, 2013. On that day, the old Family Relations Act, which now governs family law in BC, will be replaced by the new act. Some of the changes to family law that the new act will bring are minor and some of them will be more sweeping.

Our Family Law Act series has outlined some of the biggest changes that have been identified. These aren’t, however, all of them. For more information, you can see the act itself, continue to read the ELAN blog for updates on family law issues, and refer to the Family Law in BC website. We’ll be updating the website contents over the course of the next few months and launch all the revised material on March 18, 2013 so that the site remains current even as the new act goes into effect.

Our thanks to JP Boyd for providing the background for this series. His BC Family Law Resource Blog covers family law issues in BC and contains lots of useful information. He has also written extensively about the new Family Law Act.
